Verkkouutiset.fi: Russia simulates occupation of Baltic countries

Finnish site Verkkouutiset.fi reports on an interview given by Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves to Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, in which the president expressed his concern at Russia’s Zapad-2013 (“West-2013”) military exercises, which simulate ethnic unrest in the Baltic countries. When President Ilves was asked how he felt about the exercises, he replied, “It’s incomprehensible. We’re not threatening them.” The site concludes that it is probably not a coincidence that the first all-NATO military exercises in ten years, Steadfast Jazz, will be held in November in the Baltic region.
